Public Training Core Course Content

Day 1 – Big Data Management and Analysis

Import large industrial datasets from Excel, Access, or any data file source. Learn the data manipulation methods and tricks to navigate your data management roadblocks.  Compare current performance to historical, benchmark or multiple process levels. Identify outliers, shifts and drifts and determine their root cause using time series and relational graphics. Quantify process shifts, differences and variation using descriptive statistics and confidence intervals.  Create macro programs to automate your dashboard calculations and quality reports.

Day 2 - Statistical Analysis for Data-Based Decision Making

Don’t run the risk of trusting sample statistics and graphics alone when making decisions with critical and costly ramifications! The principles of confidence intervals and hypothesis testing are the foundation of statistical analyses that ensure greatest confidence in all data-based decisions. Apply t-tests to compare process performance to target, compare processes and paired analysis.   Compare variability or defect levels for two or more designs, machines, raw materials or processes using variance and proportion tests. Determine the appropriate sample size for each study using power analysis. Apply regression techniques to establish statistically significant relationships,
y = f (x1, x2, x3 …….), between input and output variables, which are then used to predict and optimize future performance. 

Day 3 - Quality Analysis for Process and Product Validation

This course demonstrates how to meet FDA, automotive, medical device and pharmaceutical requirements for product and process validation. Discover the techniques that your suppliers should implement to ensure incoming materials and components meet your quality requirements. Provide internal and external customers with proof of process capability for both normal and non-normal data.  Use Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (R&R) studies, for both destructive and repeatable measurements, to determine if your measurement systems are capable.   Implement Attribute Agreement studies to determine if your visual inspection can consistently differentiate between good and bad parts.  Based on Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts, implement the correct control chart to separate special cause from common cause variation in your manufacturing process.

Day 4 –Design of Experiments for Performance Improvement

Are your products and processes performing to their maximum potential?  Our experimental design (DOE) courses demonstrate how to optimize performance, making it great.  Master the 5 design characteristics that make factorial experimentation more efficient and successful than any other approach. Apply the 7 step method to execute the best data collection plan that will determine cause and effect relationships.  Study main effects and interaction effects, quantify them, and leverage the experimental results to model the input-output relationships.  Use data visualization graphics and response optimization to achieve optimal performance.

Day 5 – Advanced Experimental Design and Quality Techniques

Embrace the real efficiency of experimental design by running sequential experiments. Use highly efficient, low resolution designs to screen a large number of variables in your brainstorm list down to the vital few, in the least number of runs.  With main variables and interactions identified in factorial designs, complex processes may still require the next level of understanding to achieve peak performance.  Apply response surface designs to refine your models, threading the needle to peak performance.   Determine compromise design and process settings to achieve multiple response requirements. 

Nearly all measurement systems have multiple gages requiring an Expanded Gage R&R Study to quantify sources of measurement variation.   Design the right sampling plan for your expanded study.  Develop the best quality control plan for your process using Acceptance Sampling methods.  These plans reduce sampling to the lowest possible cost, while minimizing the costly risk of accepting or shipping out-of-spec product.

Our five-day core competency program is offered in four cities during the first half of 2017.  Each of the five days is an independent class that can be taken on its own. The five-day program can be taken in any date and city combination that best meets your schedule.  This provides flexibility for those earning the Industrial Data Analyst certification, but also allows others to select the courses of greatest interest to them.
